Raleigh, NC - 13 January 2003 - Kelly Lumpkin, CEO of converged communications powerhouse, Alternate Access©, has been recognized by Business Leader Magazine as one of this year's Impact 100 recipients. A well-known Triangle entrepreneur, who lives by his motto, "Always go the extra mile," Lumpkin has taken converged communications solutions into vertical markets not generally known for their technological prowess - and in so doing has dramatically enhanced the profits and opportunities of those industries.
For example, the floral industry is one that is dominated by a very few large companies such as FTD and TeleFloral, and they have large call centers and extensive technology available to process orders on a national and international basis.
However, with Alternate Access' focus on the floral industry this year, Kelly has delivered technology that scales to the size of the operations of middle and smaller florists, allowing them to also have state of the art call centers. This helps floral businesses be a larger part of their local communities, and it puts that all- important local touch on their products and services.
Under Kelly Lumpkin's leadership, Alternate Access has transformed several industries in the same manner. His efforts have not only won his company more business but have allowed his customers to do more than survive in a down economy. They are thriving, offering services and jobs to their communities.
But Kelly contributes more than his business smarts to the Triangle community. He is a devoted family man, father to four, who range in age from 22 years to 10 months. As part of the Council for Entrepreneurial Development (CED)'s Community Outreach Development Group, he has also worked with local high schools and entrepreneurs to develop a speaker's bureau. The bureau is comprised of successful entrepreneurs in the RTP area who have submitted their résumé's and volunteered their time to come into local high schools to present students with entrepreneurial career paths. This program is targeted primarily at minority students, females and others that comprise those groups typically underrepresented in the entrepreneurial community.
The Community Outreach Development Group also offers students opportunities to attend various CED events, to do company visits, some even leading to coop job opportunities.
Kelly says of his Impact 100 recognition, "I want to thank Business Leader for honoring me in this way. I truly
delight in seeing individuals and business move forward to their full potential. That I might have played some
role in that process for my customers and for members of my community is most gratifying."
