RALEIGH, N.C. (June 29, 2007) – Alternate Access® president and director of marketing Adrienne K. Lumpkin has been named the 2007 Woman Business Owner of the Year by the Greater Raleigh chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners at the installation and award ceremony held last night at Brier Creek Country Club.
The annual award is presented to a NAWBO member based on exemplary performance in several areas, including business accomplishments, ability to overcome obstacles, involvement in NAWBO, support of other women business owners, and civic and community involvement.
“I am honored to receive this award,” stated Lumpkin. “NAWBO is such an important, rewarding part of my life. NAWBO continuously provides numerous opportunities for women business owners to serve, share insights and learn from others, develop friendships and support each other’s businesses.”
Lumpkin was nominated by the 2006 award recipient, and fellow NAWBO member, Judy T. Smith, owner of Smith Seal of NC. Smith explained, “Adrienne lives and breathes NAWBO and has tirelessly, skillfully and cheerfully served the organization. She is an inspiration to women and a great motivator – and she does all of this with grace and charm.”
An 11-year member of the Greater Raleigh NAWBO, Lumpkin has served the organization in various capacities, including serving on the national nominating committee, serving on the local board for three years – as president for one year – and taking on myriad special projects.
Lumpkin’s company, Alternate Access, is a leading provider of converged communications solutions that has nearly tripled its installed base of clients over the past three years. It has also grown one of its niche markets, the florist industry, by 60 percent. Today the company has customers nationwide and in Canada.
