Alternate Access® president to compete in Man &Woman of the Year fundraiser for Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

RALEIGH, N.C. (March 29, 2007) – Adrienne K. Lumpkin, president and director of marketing at
Alternate Access®, will compete in the Triangle Man & Woman of the Year fundraiser, hosted by
the Eastern N.C. Chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Alternate Access is a leading
provider of converged communications solutions. Money raised during her eight-week fundraising
campaign will help fund research to cure blood cancers.

In its fourth year, the local event raises money to assist in the Society’s mission to cure leukemia,
lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their
families. Nearly 4,000 new cases of blood cancer are anticipated in North Carolina alone this
year, with 118,000 expected nationwide.

“This fundraiser offers so much more than healthy competition with my peers,” said Lumpkin. “It
provides an opportunity to help raise awareness of leukemia, lymphoma and other types of blood
cancers. To know that the money we raise will help find cures for and assist families affected by
these diseases – that is a great feeling.”

Lumpkin specifically hopes to raise awareness of myeloma, which occurs in African-Americans at
nearly double the incidence rate over Americans of European decent.

During the eight-week fundraiser, candidates can raise money via e-mail with an online
fundraising Web page, letter writing, special events and personal requests. Candidates can begin
accepting donations at 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 29, following the campaign’s kick-off event.
Winners will be announced in May at a grand finale event. To donate to Lumpkin’s campaign visit
her site at www.lls.org/ncemwoy.

All candidates for Woman of the Year will raise money in honor of the 2007 Boy of the Year, Ryan
Carasiti, a brave youth from the Triangle who has battled acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) for
3 years. Leukemia is the leading disease-killer of children under the age of 15.

The Society expects to invest $62 million in research in 2007, with $6.1 million funding research
projects at Duke University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
